Basketball...A Birthday...A Barbershop.

When you have a family of five children (as our daughter and son-in-love do) you tend to have a full day of activities on a Saturday not to mention a birthday, too. That's how it was recently as you'll see in the photos below. Sometimes it seems like a 3 ring circus :) From the early morning game of basketball to the last bite of the birthday concoctions it was a fun filled day. Stay tuned... more birthdays to come.

Here We 'Snow' Again!!!

Well, this has been quite a snowy winter, one most of us will not forget. We officially received 13.2 inches of snow! Yes, it's beautiful but I have a feeling it is going to be here for a long time. Our snowfall just days before Christmas this past December finally completely melted. Now here we go again. There will be cancellations galore in Virginia. Oh well, at least it makes for some pretty pictures and we were able to spend the time snowed in together! Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow has been playing in our minds all day :)

The night before!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...again!

Do these Geese even know their backs have snow on them? The original Snow Geese!

Proof of our 12 inches of snow.

The answer to all the snow.

A timely, sunshiny gift from a friend helps take the sting of winter away!

2009 Birthday Back Tracking

I am going to back track on some 2009 events even though it is 2010.

Starting with Donn's birthday. He is a January birthday boy so we will start with him. Remember it is January 2010 so his birthday this year has already come and gone...hopefully I will post the event before 2011:)
More 2009 events in future posts along with this year's posts. That's my aim anyways.

Homeschool Christmas Recital

Last month some of the homeschoolers had their Christmas recital. We always look forward to listening to the kids perform. One of our grandsons, who plays the violin and was going to sing a solo, was not up to it physically which was a disappointment to us grandparents :( Maybe next year :)
I am always in awe how these young performers can get up in front of an audience with such poise and grace. Good job kids ( and parents.)

Lauren playing the Penny whistle.

Amber playing the piano.

Sisters Sammie and Becky singing a duet.

Trent on the mandolin with his music teacher accompanying him.

Amber on the banjo with her music teacher accompanying her.

Little Nathan and his cousins, The Wise Family. He was ADORABLE !!!

Planner Plans

Hi my name is Judy and I am married to Mr. Organized Planner. He is really, really, really a Daytimer user of more years than I can honestly remember. He is so faithful at keeping a planner I even think he has a back up system for planning. After years of my husband encouraging me to get a planner and years of failing to keep one successfully I finally surprised him last year and we went planner shopping, my idea! After he recovered from the shock we picked out a planner that fit my requirements. It had to fit in my purse, the whole month had to be visible, the blocks for each day had to be big enough so I could write more than one action item, etc, etc.

I found out a planner really was a blessing and helped me keep track of our busy schedules without surprise collisions. I can honestly say I used it quite regularly, I'm not as judicious as my husband is but I'm getting the idea. So just the other day I bought my 2010 planner. After a year I could tell better what I needed and made a few changes in my selection. Like my husband said "If you don't like this one you can always get another one before next year."

I chose a Bible verse which I wrote on the inside of last year's cover:

Psalm 90:12
"So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom."

If you have never gotten into the planner routine may I encourage you to try it? You may surprise yourself and really see it's great worth.

Happy New Year!

Good bye 2009 planner!

Hello 2010 planner!

Just waiting to be filled!

Christmas 2009

We are so blessed to have all our family close by so Christmas is celebrated at our home where there is room to invite our family of 13. Donn's parents moved out here this Summer so we were blessed to have them join us, too. Since our youngest grandchild is 9 and the oldest is 17 we usually have a calm time with all the festivities. Below are some of the highlights of the day. The one major change we made this year was to have everyone come over @ 2PM instead of the morning time which suited this night person quite well :) It's always a blessing to have a reason to have family come to our home but Christmas time is always the most special because of the birthday of a king... THE KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS... JESUS CHRIST THE SAVIOUR OF THE WORLD!!! Luke 2:11

It's almost time!

Christmas snacks are a must!

One 40 yr. old 'kid' couldn't contain his excitement :)

Opening presents time!!!

Sitting around and talking.
